Best Language For Programming Challenges

I would like to see your opinion about what is the best programming language for programming challenges.(levels that require to send the answer in x seconds only).

I usually use wget for the http get/post and cookie handling part, and solve the challenge itself in perl.

I also use perl, which is one of my favorite languages anyway, for challenges. For the http and cookie part I use the WWW::Mechanize module.

I think that probably all languages can be used for this.

For me the best solution is the one in which I have to put the least effort and time.
There was a time when I used PHP for everything.
Now for simple get page, calculate something, send response in X seconds I usually use wget + (sed|bc|awk|other gnu tools) or javascript (greasemonkey).
For OCR challs it's usually wget + gocr or Python if gocr can't make it.
Some challenges are just begging me to code in Prolog ;)
And for other it's Python (lambda functions).

For me i have chosen Java for the language of choice, because it is close to C/++

Of course you should be able to do some bash lines with wget, grep and other gnu/linux tools which is a quicker solution

When I was a hacker during the last century, I got to steal a lot of money. So now about the challenges, I just have to pay some slaves to do the job for me. I created a specific language with some instructions "Do that before tomorrow" and so on. I dont know if my team of slaves use some computing language as ADA, Fortran, Brainfuck ... Well, these are just names I read somewhere but I dont know exactly what it is about.

And yes, you are right, I probably dont pay them enough, so I still remain with a lot of challs to solve
